Everyone who came along to the Winter Lights Procession enjoyed a magical stroll with sparkling lanterns on Friday 9th December.

The walk  began at St John the Evangelist Church and finished at the Carterton Community Centre where everyone enjoyed carols sung by children from Gateway school. Free refreshments were provided which were very kindly donated by the Co-operative Store, Marigold Square, Shilton Park.  Carterton Lions provided a beautiful grotto for Father Christmas to visit us.  All the children loved seeing him & giving their present requests. This proved to be a hugely successful and popular evening attended by approximatley 250 people.

Thank you to the organisers – WODC, Carterton Lions & Carterton Community Centre but also a huge thank you to all the volunteers from other groups such as Carterton U3A & Cottsway Housing who helped out on the evening.

We are extremely pleased to report that we donated £1368.11 to the Help for Heroes charity from money raised by the barn dance evening & raffle ticket sales. The amount sent also included donations from Carterton Lions & Carterton U3A.

We have since received a thank you letter from Help for Heroes who were very appreciative of the donation. The money will go towards their next project which is to deliver the Defence Recovery Capability (DRC) . This will be a comprehensive pathway to help the wounded back into the next phase of their lives. H4H are working in partnership with the MOD & RBL on this new project.

Thanks again to everyone who gave their time & support to make this event so successful.

The scheme volunteers provide a personal home visiting service offering neighbourly support, originally to people living on Shilton Park estate and more recently branching out to include all areas of Carterton.  If you feel you could benefit from a little extra support, please get in touch.  You can download a membership form from the GNS “downloads page”.
